Our regular excursions are run over the entire length of our line to make a 10 mile round trip. These trips last a little over 1 hour. Shorter trips last approximately 35 minutes.
The museum is open for visitors seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. throughout the year to inspect, photograph, and study the historic rail equipment, the small depot and the facility. The museum's volunteer staff is present each Wednesday and Saturday until 1:30 or 2:00 p.m. to answer the phone, to take train ride reservations and to assist visitors. The museum is also open by special appointment. Visitors have a choice of a free self-guided tour throughout the week, or a special guided tour on train days. For visitors taking the free self-guided tour there are tour sheets and museum brochures in the waybill box located on the front of the depot. We request visitors to stay off the track do not climb on equipment and to obey all signs. The guided tour covers the history of the Chase Nursery and proceeds through the facility and the museum's display passenger train. There is a charge of $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for children six through eleven. The guided tour requires around one hour and offers more of a personal touch as you enjoy seeing the inside of the museum's restored Railway Post Office car, a heavy weight day coach, a 1914 diner now being restored, a Pullman sleeper showing how first-class passengers would ride during the day and the sleeping accommodations for night and finally a beautifully restored Southern Railway caboose. The museum depends on its income from train rides and donations from visitors who are interested in seeing a bit of our rail history preserved. Donations are welcomed!

Due to limited seating, reservations are recommended and may be made by calling the museum at (256) 851-6276 (NARM) on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Museum brochures and train schedules can be found locally at the Tourist Information Center on Church Street and at the museum's Chase Depot. The tickets you purchase will list your car number and seat number(s). Please go here for scheduling information.
Safety Notes:
We want your visit to the museum to be a safe and enjoyable one, so we ask that you please abide by the following guide lines:
- Train operations require the use of loud whistles that may startle very young children and there are safety considerations around trains and heavy equipment, therefore we advise not to bring children under the age of three.
- Please wear comfortable properly fitting (casual) clothes and shoes that provide good footing for the train ride and / or tour.
- Please, when you visit, do not attempt to walk or balance on top of the rails or allow children to. Rails are very slippery and can cause a very a bad fall and serious injury.
- Please do not place objects such as pennies on top of rails.
- Please do not allow children to climb on equipment as this could prove to be very dangerous.
- Please obey all of the museum signs including the "No Visitors Beyond This Point" signs.
Notices:
- We are not set up to take reservations over the website at this time. Please call the ticket agent at the Chase depot at the times given at 851-6276 (NARM) for that purpose.
- Prices are subject to change, please call to verify.
- The museum will hold your tickets for 7 days for payment (except for the week of the train ride) or they will be sent to you via mail if you enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope within ample mailing time to the museum mailing address listed below.
- Any seats remaining or any unclaimed seats will be sold on a first come / first served basis at the ticket counter.
- Passengers should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled departure times.
- For all train rides except the Goblin Train and the Santa Train, babes in arms not requiring a seat ride free. Everyone, regardless of age, must have a ticket to ride the Goblin Train and the Santa Train as these trips are aimed at children under ten. Adult tickets are not sold unless a child is present in the group.
- Guided tours are not available on days the Santa Train or Goblin Train run or after the last regular November train ride.
- No food or drink is permitted on the train. Remember, you're riding in classic antiques.
- If you bring a baby stroller you will be asked to store it nearby before boarding the train for the ride.
- While we make every attempt to accept physically disabled riders, unfortunately the vintage passenger cars do not provide space for wheel chairs onboard the train. Please advise us of any special needs you may have prior to making reservations.
- Payment methods: The museum does not accept credit cards, but will accept non-two party checks with proper I.D. The museum reserves the right to decline or accept all checks.
